In the serene hills of Serra de Montejunto, overlooking Portugal’s Atlantic coast, the story of Familia Nicolau unfolds—a tale deeply rooted in tradition yet alive with the promise of renewal. This 6th-generation family winery, nurtured by the Nicolau family for over a century, has always found inspiration in the land. In 2018, a bold new chapter began as the family embraced Organic Certification and Regenerative Agriculture, taking meaningful steps to honor their legacy while safeguarding the future.

A unique terroir
Our vineyards span 10 hectares of calcareous clay soils, a terroir uniquely suited to crafting wines of remarkable freshness, minerality, and complexity. These soils, rich in life and nutrients, are the foundation of our wines and the heart of our regenerative philosophy.
The mild Atlantic climate plays its part in shaping our wines, lending natural acidity and balance. Summers are tempered by cooling ocean breezes, while winters allow the soils to rest and regenerate. This delicate balance of sun, wind, and rain creates the perfect environment for cultivating native grape varieties such as Arinto, Castelão, and Vital — grapes that tell the story of the region and the resilience of the land.
